I ordered the this portable ice maker after a lot of consideration and reading many product reviews. Some were cheaper and more in the price range I wanted, however I also wanted one that produced ice that didn't melt quickly and produced ice quickly. This ice maker is fantastic, actually the production is faster than I use (I cut off the unit until I'm ready for more), the ice cubes are just the right size to fit in stacked 2x3 rows of ice for my water tumbler and the ice stays ice and cubes don't melt quickly. LOVE this machine, very happy with all it does. It has an automatic shut off when ice tray is full, shuts off if the water level is low, is very quiet, cubes, although coming out in full sheets or half sheets are very easily broken apart by hand. The only time the sheets are frozen too thick to easily break apart is when the ice tray is full and the sheet in the form can't empty and more ice forms on top. In that case, which is rare for me, I turnoff the machine, let the ice in the form melt a little and soon it falls into the tray. I LOVE this machine! I use only filtered water in it, use it every day, most of the day, use ice for my filtered drinking water (I don't like the taste of treated county water or room temperature water), and put cubes in my ice cooler.
My research showed the round bullet ice melts relatively fast, not so these cubes. I drink from my insulated water tumbler all day; I fill it with cubes and water in the morning, refresh the cubes about once during the day and still have cubes in the tumbler by evening. So far so good with this unit, it is worth the price. I'm very satisfied, no complaints on speed of making ice or having the ice expended in the tray in sheets or half sheets--no problem at all, the cubes are easy to break apart by hand. It's compact, fits easily on the end of my kitchen counter and underneath my top cabinets. Water reservoir is filled from the top, controls are on the front and let you know if the water level is low. Very nice machine.
I've been using this for about 10 days now and couldn't be happier with it. It looks good on the counter, was easy to set up, and has been churning out little hard cubes of clear ice consistently. And it is surprisingly quiet, with only a low hum and the sound of tinkling water. We've already made and used the equivalent of four or five commercial bags of ice.
I would buy again or gift it.
This machine produces beautiful ice, however, it is always a little wet so it sticks together when placed in the freezer. I am constantly banging the ice to break it up. The ice is fantastically clear ( I only use distilled water ). It makes my bourbon or scotch look awesome.
1.) Ice lasts a lot longer than the bullet shaped ice by other brands
2.) Ice comes out clear ( no white cubes - all clear )
3.) Produces ice much faster than my fridge ice maker
1.) Ice is wet and sticks together in freezer.
2.) Ice when made comes out in bricks of cubes, need to break apart before using.
3.) No water line into unit ( not a major draw back for me since I use distilled water )
I am not rating this a 5 star due to the ice is always wet... if the manufacture could make the cooler colder, I think it would be a 5 out of 5.
I have to say the manufacturer of this machine did good, this thing puts out... No louder than the water cooler next to it. So it is , in my opinion, VERY tolerable for the "noise level". Cranks out ice in a quiet way, obviously there is going to ice dropping in any machine so that is a given. Be that as it may, We just don't run it at night. We however, transfer the ice to the freezer and stock it for a day or two then simply push the power button again and, viola, ice in a few minutes... ALL DAY LONG.
The family and I use multiple forms of hydration based on performance requirements so having the ability to cool any beverage(or body part) weather it be a super deep hike up a mountain or a wicked pool party in the back yard, this set up has us covered!
TIPS: DON'T COVER THE SIDE VENTS! machines like these have to vent a lot of heat. Refrigerators and freezers and systems like these remove the heat from inside the compartments, they do not produce cold like a heater produces heat. Hence My set up here allows plenty of ventilation around the unit for the removed heat to escape.
